Amy Kelly
I’m Amy, founder of SmartSignsBSL. I was born deaf and learnt BSL at 14. I went to hearing schools, relying heavily on lipreading and support from teaching assistants. I had a cochlear implant in my 20s.
I set up SmartSignsBSL in Newton Abbot in 2005 and have been teaching BSL for over 20 years. I am qualified to Level 6 and hold a City & Guilds 7307 Further and Adult Education Teachers’ Certificate. I have taught deaf children, parents, people learning for work or people learning simply because they want to. I teach one-to-one sessions, small groups to large workplace classes.
My classes are friendly, relaxed and practical, whether you’re learning at our Newton Abbot HQ, online or in your workplace.
Sophie Gibson
Sophie has been signing for over 20 years and is a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), so BSL has been part of her life from an early age.
She was once the youngest person in the UK to complete BSL Levels 1 and 2 – until her younger sister beat her by a year!
Sophie is qualified to BSL Level 6 and is also a qualified BSL Interpreter. She brings plenty of natural experience, knowledge and a real love of BSL to her teaching.
